JUMP TV becomes iLand Television!

MEDIA RELEASE:

JUMP TV IN PORT HOOD BECOMES iLAND TELEVISION

PORT HOOD – The Community Cable TV Station based in Port Hood and also serving Mabou and Judique has a new name. JUMP TV will become iLand Television. The station held a contest to come up with the new name. The winner was Kristen MacKeough of Linwood who came up with the winning entry and will receive a prize basket of locally made items, many obtained at the Mabou Farmer’s Market and from local businesses, valued at approximately $150.00.

“The contest produced a number of great entries, we narrowed them down to the best three or four, and then the research began.” says Dwayne MacEachern. “We had to ensure our pick was not being used already. That was the reason this all began as JUMP TV was already registered by a company in Ontario. While an Island Television once did exist, the trademark was abandoned, clearing the way for iLand Television.”

The new station name, spelled in the likeness of iPod, for example, reflects the community television station’s vision of embracing this era of technological advancement and all the possibilities that come with that, while at the same time keeping in touch with our local geography and the cultural aspects of our communities.

“It’s very exciting,” MacEachern says, “because this is just the first baby step of a long journey that will see a community cable television station become a model media outlet for being both entirely successful and socially responsible at the same time. We’re going to create something new here and we hope everyone in our communities will both contribute and benefit from the process.”

MacEachern also invites comments on the first draft of the new logo for iLand Television. You can contact the Port Hood Area Development office at 787-3050, by email at development@porthood.ca
